INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

During the summer of 2022, I had an opportunity to work at Indeed as a UX Designer Intern with the mission of "helping people get jobs." In 12 weeks of my internship, my work focused mainly on the Application Journey where job seekers can manage their applications and gain meaningful insights for their job search on My jobs.

Remote Internship in Ann Arbor, MI

WHAT I WORKED ON

Project 1. Email Design

I closely collaborated with a content designer and project manager to design four application status emails to guide job seekers on the next steps when their applications were not successfully sent to employers.

Project 2. Product Design

I led the design process to create a centralized place where job seekers can access their entire application history for unemployment benefits. This involved close collaboration with 2 senior UX designers, UX director and content designer.

WHAT I LEARNED
  1. Communication is the key

I have learned the importance of communication, which involves engaging with internal stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the project and gather more information. By effectively communicating with them, I was able to broaden my thinking and consider how my design would impact the entire ecosystem. Communication plays a vital role in navigating through ambiguity and ensuring a clear understanding of the project context, enabling me to ask the right questions.

  1. Share your work to learn more

Throughout the internship, I was given numerous opportunities to share my work with my team and receive insightful feedback on my designs. Not only have I learned the value of providing concrete feedback, but I have also learned the importance of organizing design rationales to walk through my designs to get concrete feedback and iterate to create better user experience.

  1. Content design brings clarity

I have learned the importance of content design, which plays a vital role in creating better user experience. It bridges the gap between visual designs and context by providing clear guidance to job seekers and effectively delivering the value of the product, empowering them in their job search.
